Morris Plains NJ Brazilian Jiujitsu Practitioner Tells Why BJJ Can Save Your Life

There are so many cases to this date, where I hear many stories of Jiujitsu saving people’s life one way or the other. Although, I can just speak for myself, I cannot overlook the fact that there are now so many stories on the news, of people using Jiujitsu to help others in their communities to stay safe and even on the street as stories like the New York bjj practitioner who choke someone who was trying to kidnap her baby, and was able to stop the kidnapper by putting them on a reverse choke. Unfortunately, when using Jiujitsu the outcome may not be positive all the time. As everyone can react different to a choke and lock, but the idea is to protect ourselves and others through “self-defense”. Thus let’s explore some of the benefits that jiujitsu brings to our dangerous society day after day, and see why in my view this martial art can leave you unscathed while keep you safe at the same.

Minimum Effort and maximum results

Learning Jiujitsu is always hard while on the mat, and very frustrating when you go year after year to cling to just few techniques and still having guys toying you around a lot smaller than you, however, one of those techniques can easily make a difference in a situation where your life or anyone around you is at risk.

Jiujitsu is based mainly on body locks using little effort when learn it right, therefore, Brazilian Jiujitsu is perfectly acceptable for any age or gender. As in many cases we have seen women halting lethal attacks on them by using the art. Either by throwing someone in the floor and mounting the aggressor or locking someone’s arm, neck or wrist while proper help just arrives.

Jiujitsu has been a conundrum for many individuals for years, as many people refers to self defense as ‘karate, or kung fu, mainly. My experience as a kung fu practitioner was great, but nothing compares to BJJ when the ratio of missing a lock or choke is going to be 1 out of 10 when learn it right, while kicking and punching can always be missed, primarily if the thug has a knife or stick.

Jiujitsu can Improve your self-esteem and awareness

Jiujitsu can add a sense of safety to your social and personal life, for example I have been in situations where I have gotten lost looking for an address, and wind up in a bad neighborhood, and my knowledge in the art may not help in a gun assault situation, but the fact that I can stay aware and confident is priceless.

Jiujitsu as a discipline is the best thing for anyone that can also improve fitness, as your mobility, body’s reflexes and core strength improves greatly. These general movement patterns can help a lot in a situation where you fall in the floor or simply hide or run from danger.

Jiujitsu helps communities and our police force

Making friends with lots of police officers is one thing I can be thankful for, as in my perspective these public servants put their lives at risk everyday. For example by talking with these police officers, I learned countless of stories where they put people who attacked them to sleep momentarily by using a lock or chock instead of using bullets. To me this deserves much respect, because not only they save the life of the thug, though by stopping them they also save other individuals lives who may have encountered these aggressors if had not been stopped previously.

In one case in my town, one of my buddies is a police officer, and in one encounter with a drunker, he pulled the drunker’ car on the highway while asked for his car’s keys he refused to hand the keys over to this officer, and my buddy reached out to the igniter to get the keys while the driver grabbed his wrist with a menacing behavior, thus, my buddy broke his hand and pulled him out of the car, and arrested hi safely, the rest is history!.

Conclusion

Jiujitsu can help you improve your fitness and endurance, and still one of the most effective martial arts. For that reason you need to adapt it slowly into your lifestyle and in few months a technique or two even three well practice, can indeed save your life or anyone else’s.
